Marketing Manager

We are looking for an exceptional marketing professional to lead the communications team. 

Position Summary

This position has responsibility for department planning and scheduling, brand management, development of marketing communication materials, media strategies, and implementation of marketing tactics. The Marketing Manager will also assist in all efforts for audience development including subscriptions, single ticket, and group sales.  Provide marketing consultation to the development staff and the performing arts academy.  The director will manage the year-round Graphic Designer and seasonal Marketing Intern.

 Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess an analytical approach to strategy development and a creative interpretation to plan implementation.
  • Skilled in design and development of marketing materials and public relations programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, persuasive speaker, polished writing capabilities for a variety of formats.
  • Collaborative spirit; proven team leader.
  • Solid background in identifying partners and negotiating media buys.
  • Experienced in audience development/sales building.
  • Strong sense of fiscal responsibility and budget management. 

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of marketing communications experience with at least one year leading a department.
  • Background working with all forms of media (print, radio, TV, social networking, etc.).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Experience in ticketing software and a background in the arts are preferred.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.
  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings as necessary. 

Reporting: 

This position reports to the Associate Producer.

Production Manager

Reports to: Artistic Director
Status: Full Time Exempt

Position Summary:

STAGES is seeking a Production Manager to lead the Production Department and supervise the implementation of the vision of the Artistic Team while remaining within the available resources of time, budget, and personnel. The Production Manager supervises two full-time staff employees year round, and oversees the operation of a production shop of 50-60 seasonal employees. They will oversee the operation of the 22,000 sq. ft. production shop. STAGES is currently performing at the Robert G. Reim theatre located in Kirkwood, Missouri. All three Broadway style mainstage musicals are produced in this 384-seat house along with our Family Theatre Series production. STAGES will be moving into a new 530-seat 25 million dollar Performing Arts Center in May 2021 in downtown Kirkwood.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:  

  • Collaborate with the Artistic Director, Executive Producer, Associate Producer, and Finance Department on budget development, staffing, and policy issues. 
  • Track and maintain the annual Operating Production Budget of around $1,000,000 throughout the fiscal year.
  • Collaborate with Associate Producer, Finance Manager, and Artistic Coordinator on duties such as, but not limited to, policy generation, hiring, firing, and mentoring of all Production Department employees. 
  • Hire, retain, and supervise Technical Director and Costume Shop Manager, along with overseeing the hiring process of the seasonal production staff.
  • Communicates all contract details for designers and all production staff. 
  • Develop and maintain the Master Production Calendar.
  • Serve as the liaison to other STAGES Departments and the Academy to assist, coordinate, and deliver production services.
  • Oversee maintenance of all shops in coordination with the Technical Director and Costume Shop Manager.
  • Work with shop managers to create a positive and productive work environment.
  • Review and approve all production shop payroll.
  • Attend all management team meetings.
  • Attend production meetings as needed.  Meet with designers to talk about budgets and schedules.
  • Act as manager of company vehicle needs, including rentals, up-keep, security, and operation for the production vehicles and any rental truck needs.
  • Staff all STAGES’ events appropriately, and may at times work these events.
  • Administer Health and Safety standards in collaboration with production department supervisors.
  • Oversight of STAGES’ rentals program.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor Degree in theatre with experience in multiple technical fields.
  • Minimum 4-5 years work experience with progressive experience with at least 2 years experience as a Production Manager.
  • Knowledge of technical production, including practical experience in shop/stage operations, scenic construction, stage rigging, painting, lighting, sound, and costume construction.
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Some design background is beneficial but not required.
  • Familiarity with unions (AEA, IATSE, USA, SDC, AFM) is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to drive a 26ft Box Truck.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and use time efficiently.
  • Maintain positive and calm attitude under pressure.

 Work Conditions:

  • Standing for long periods of time.
  • Lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate uneven stage surfaces.
  • Ability to operate technical equipment and computers.

Company Management Apprentice

Reports to: Artistic Director
Status: Full Time Exempt

Position Summary:

The STAGES St. Louis Spotlight on Careers Internship & Apprenticeship Programs are designed to train the next generation of theatre professionals in the skills necessary to become successful and integral parts of the theatre community.  We combine practical hands-on experience with the opportunity to work with and learn from seasoned theatre professionals.  While immersed in the professional world, our interns gain in-depth knowledge and experience in their chosen areas to become well-rounded theatre practitioners.

STAGES St. Louis is a 501©(3) not-for-profit theatre company, committed to preserving and advancing the art form of Musical Theatre through excellence in performance and education in the St. Louis region.  STAGES, finishing its 33rd year of producing Broadway-quality theatre, employs a full-time staff of twenty-five and a seasonal company from March to October, presenting 140 performances to nearly 50,000 patrons.  STAGES also educates thousands of students each year at its Performing Arts Academy, the St. Louis region’s only year-round arts school with a comprehensive curriculum run by a professional theatre company.

STAGES is seeking a Company Management Apprentice for the 2020 Season.  The Company Management Apprentice will work with the Artistic Coordinator to provide the highest level of hospitality to STAGES’ artists.  This apprenticeship will be part-time for the period of January through beginning of May.  During this period, the apprentice will have the opportunity to assist with the audition & casting processes, contract negotiations, hiring of actors & production personnel, and other pre-season preparations.  In May, when the apprenticeship shifts to full time, the apprentice will become involved in the day-to-day details of the Acting and Production company’s professional lives.  This includes activities relating to travel, housing, special needs, health and well-being, hospitality, and working to integrate artists into STAGES and the surrounding community.  The successful applicant is ambitious, self-motivated, and works well in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:  

  • Assist with the St. Louis and New York Audition prep, and help run the St. Louis auditions.
  • Assist Artistic Coordinator with contracting of all actors and production personnel for the season.
  • Arrange all travel and housing for out of town artists. Assist Artistic Coordinator on airport travel days throughout the Season.
  • Assist in coordinating & setting up all company meals.
  • Assist with hospitality needs of company members including creating welcome packets.
  • Assist in maintaining the artistic budgets and actor payroll.
  • Assist in the maintenance of all company vehicles.
  • Share on-call duties with Artistic Coordinator.
  • Assist in on-boarding actor and production personnel.
  • Assist with pre-show and post-show student activities for the TYA production.
  • Assist with research projects and/or assignments as needed.
  • Communicate with all acting and production personnel regarding events, parties, PR meetings/interviews, or other hospitality needs.
  • Assist with special STAGES events for the season.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient computer skills with demonstrated knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
  • Have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and flexible schedule.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and use time efficiently.
  • Maintain positive and calm attitude under pressure.
  • Must be able to respond with flexibility to both the needs of various collaborators and to rapidly changing circumstances and personalities.
  • Previous company management or administrative assistant experience is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with unions (AEA, USA, SDC) is beneficial

  • Shared 24/7 On-Call duty

Candidate Requirements:

  • Be able to provide local housing in St. Louis for the duration of the apprenticeship.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Be able to work 20-25 hours/week during the part time duration, and 35-40 hours per week during the full time duration of the apprenticeship.

Academy Administrative Assistant

STATUS: Part Time

Position Summary:

The Academy Administrative Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day administrative and registration responsibilities of the STAGES ST. LOUIS Department of Education and Outreach. The Assistant will help administer performing arts education programming for students from pre-school to adult at the STAGES Performing Arts Academy.  Microsoft Office Suite proficiency and database experience required. Experience and/or genuine interest in theatre education preferred. Evening and Saturday hours required.  Must have reliable transportation and be able to pass a background check

Teaching Artist Position

STAGES Performing Arts Academy is seeking Teaching Artists for both the Academy and its Outreach programs in the following disciplines: 
Acting
Musical Theatre
Dance
Private Voice
Special Education

Applicants must have previous teaching and professional performance experience. Applicants should also possess classroom management skills, creativity, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills. All teachers must be able to work independently with students of all ages, as well as collaborate within a team of other teaching artists. This is a contracted position and hours will vary. Please indicate your availability in your cover letter. 

All Teaching Artists will be required to submit to a background check before beginning classes. You must have a reliable form of transportation as outreach teaching artists must travel to various schools and/or community centers in which classes are being offered.
