Teaching Artist Position

STAGES Performing Arts Academy is seeking Teaching Artists for both the Academy and its Outreach programs in the following disciplines: 
Acting
Musical Theatre
Dance
Private Voice
Outreach 
Special Education


Applicants must have previous teaching and professional performance experience. Applicants should also possess classroom management skills, creativity, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills. All teachers must be able to work independently with students of all ages, as well as collaborate within a team of other teaching artists. This is a contracted position and hours will vary. All Teaching Artists will be required to submit to a background check before beginning classes. You must have a reliable form of transportation as outreach teaching artists must travel to various schools and/or community centers in which classes are being offered.

DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

STAGES St. Louis is the region's foremost not-for-profit company committed to preserving and advancing the art form of Musical Theatre through excellence in performance and education. In 2020, STAGES celebrates its 34th year of producing Broadway-quality theatre.

We seek a talented, exceptional candidate capable of flexibility, teamwork and growth in an evolving development department. This fundraising professional will assist in creating the annual development plan and lead individual donor activities ensuring the success of the annual giving program.


Position Summary

The Development Manager is a key professional role within the development department, reporting to the Associate Producer. The person in this role will work with the Associate Producer to create and manage a robust annual development plan and calendar encompassing all fundraising initiatives. The Development Manager will also oversee all individual giving efforts for STAGES St. Louis, building a community of engaged individual donors who support and take ownership in the organization. Work includes planning, implementing, tracking and achieving results through a variety of activities, written and verbal communication, database analysis, project management, personal cultivation and solicitation, etc.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Associate Producer to create and manage an annual development plan and calendar.
  • Create and implement an annual individual giving plan.
  • Coordinate acquisition and renewal of BACKSTAGERS members through targeted campaigns, appeals, events, and direct solicitation.
    • Identify, cultivate, solicit and actively engage individual donors via telephone, email, direct mail and in person.
    • Work with Development Associate and Manager of Finance to ensure every gift is properly recorded and acknowledged.
    • Ensure proper donor recognition and stewardship.
  • Coordinate annual BACKSTAGERS campaign with Marketing team, including all print materials, theatre lobby displays, and online messaging.
    • Determine membership levels and benefits to communicate both internally and externally.
    • Work with Development Associate to coordinate all BACKSTAGERS communications and ensure timely mailing and dissemination of membership campaign information, appeals, invitations and materials.
  • Remain attentive to donor and patron needs.
  • Utilize/promote consistent use of Donor Perfect to ensure donor touches are tracked, donor fatigue is avoided, and goals are achieved.
    • Maintain thorough recordkeeping of all donor activity and communications.
    • Manage the collection and recording of all donor and prospect information in the database.
    • Oversee BACKSTAGERS gift entry to ensure accuracy.
    • Build systems to analyze and measure constituent response rates as well as appeal methods, goals and outcomes.
  • Assess and recommend efficient, cost-effective methods of printing and mailing to ensure timeliness and optimal results.
  • With the Associate Producer, support, motivate, and co-lead the Development Committee of the Board as they contribute to fundraising.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly and annual reports on all campaign activity.
  • Attend team, employee, and Development Committee meetings.
  • Support and participate in fundraising/donor events, working with the Events Manager as needed.
  • Lead major gift fundraising efforts with the Associate Producer and Executive Producer
    • Identify individual donors capable of making major gifts and develop strategy.
    • Conduct prospect research in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the training of new associates and seasonal interns at time of hire and ongoing.
  • Maintain awareness of best practices, trends, and procedures in individual giving; recommend policies and strategies to build and sustain member base.
  • Build community relationships and philanthropic partnerships in support of the wider development plan.
  • With the Associate Producer, implement a Planned Giving strategy and campaign.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Two to three years of fundraising experience in an area such as annual giving, donor relations or development associate. Transferable sales experience will also be considered.
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred; some college coursework required.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with donors via telephone, email and in person.
  • Excellent verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Strong and polished writing skills including spelling, grammar, punctuation and business communications.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Donor Perfect experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment with seasonal priorities. A background in the arts is a plus.
  • Collaborative spirit.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends and evenings as necessary.
