New and This fun class will focus on using creative drama to explore the pages of different stories while creating simple props to accompany the action. Get ready to make the characters from everyone’s favorite stories come alive! We’ll top off the fun experience with a chance to star in a performance for family and friends.

From the Little Mermaid to the humorous Gruffalo, in this seven-week course we will use creative drama to recreate a variety of “unordinary” characters and stories from classic and contemporary children’s literature. Don’t miss out on this one of a kind experience!

Come dive into the sea for a seven-week musical journey! We’ll play instruments and sing fun songs such as Under the Sea to learn how to create ocean rhythms and beats, while learning how to correctly use our singing voices. It’s sure to be a splashin’ good time!

The best of the best! From traditional fairy tales to modern family favorites, we’ll go on many an adventure as we bring children’s literature to life each week. Characterization will be the focus of this class which will challenge our youngest performers to release their imagination and bring these big personalities off the page and on to our stage!

Join us again for part two of our classic theatre journey or hop on board our adventure as we take the “tales” we created earlier in the session and mix in music and simple choreography. We’ll create our own mini-musical and encourage students to begin to discover the fun of musical theatre!

Students will use their imaginations and physicality to re-create stories, both familiar and new, while learning basic elements of theatre. Simple props and costume pieces will be added to the mix to complete the imaginary transformation. Be sure to sign up your budding star for a fun introduction to performing!

A perfect class for students to begin or continue acting training. They’ll learn the basic tools of the actor by participating in fun improvisations along with character development and script exercises.

Come learn acting as you create characters and develop imaginary relationships in a fun, creative environment. Through class projects you’ll develop an expressive voice and body while discovering the actor’s process. A solid foundation for further acting training!

(Prerequisite: one semester of Acting I or Director’s consent) Build on the foundation established in Acting I as you refine your skills with more complex acting scenarios and character exercises.

(Prerequisite: two semesters of Acting I or Director’s consent) Expand your understanding of the craft of acting through “on your feet” exploration of a character’s journey within a scene - learning the essentials such as objectives, obstacles, beats and conflict.

Give your imagination a blast of spontaneity as you focus on your ability to react and listen truthfully and explore the physical and vocal creation of character. A fun and funny course, improvisation requires quick thinking, strong choices, and full involvement-—important skills for any actor.

(Prerequisite: Audition or Director’s consent) This class will challenge experienced performers with complex scenes—starting with contemporary realistic pieces and then moving into scenes from various styles in theatre history—while refining acting vocabulary and performance abilities. Students’ acting instincts will be put to the test and expanded by work with two professional actor/directors. Characters, relationships, choices—these elements serve as the basis of this important class, essential for any performer looking to move on to the college and professional ranks.

In this new class, young dancers will learn fundamental steps and have the opportunity to develop choreography to popular children’s musicals. The perfect way to begin the study of musical theatre dance or just have fun learning skills for that next performance opportunity!

By continuing barre, center and across-the-floor work, students will learn and refine the fundamentals of ballet and jazz technique and vocabulary, while also improving flexibility and coordination. Take in combination with the Musical Theatre Styles dance class for well-rounded, complementary training.

You’ll get your feet tappin’ as you study and refine the fundamentals of tap dance and the rhythms your body can make! Focus will be placed on the students’ knowledge of tap vocabulary and the proper execution of increasingly difficult tap steps and combinations.

Here’s your chance to broaden your musical theatre skills as you learn choreography styles and various musical theatre combinations while working with material from different genres and choreographers. Combine with Ballet/Jazz Technique or Tap for a balance of solid technique and performance dance training.

While exploring new material from delightful musical theatre classics, students will experience the magic of musical theatre performance as they have fun combining the arts of singing, acting and dancing!

         Ages 6-8

Discover the art and magic of musical theatre as you learn what goes into creating musical theatre numbers by combining vocal and acting talents with dance choreography.

Love the Glee Club craze that’s sweeping the country? Then get a taste of that challenging world of musical performance in this introductory class done in the Glee Club style. We’ll learn vocal skills by performing a mix of a capella pieces and those with recorded tracks, as well as step up our dance talent with ensemble choreography. Come have a blast learning a whole new twist on musical theatre!

Learn what it takes to turn in a crack audition! You’ll have the chance to work intensively with Broadway veteran and STAGES Managing Director Ron Gibbs, as well as STAGES Music Supervisor Lisa Campbell-Albert as you study audition etiquette, material selection and performance choices within an audition. Your movement, vocal and acting skills will all be put to the test in this special class which will improve your auditioning skills.

We’ll travel from Broadway to Hollywood and back again as we learn and perform material from classic and contemporary movie musicals for kids! This fun and challenging class will provide the opportunity to put the skills learned in class to use as the students work with professional directors to create an original musical revue!

                                                     Ages 7-8

Be part of the hottest wave sweeping the country! We’ll create our own STAGES Glee Club ensemble and produce unique arrangements and choreography for classic and contemporary show tunes. Sure to challenge your vocal skills with sophisticated melodies, this one-of-a-kind, fun experience will help develop your performing talents in a whole new way!

Young singers will discover their singing voices along with basic music and listening skills while performing songs from their favorite famous musicals!

Develop your voice and sing great songs from musical theatre as you learn the basics of vocal technique, including work on proper breathing, diction and projection.

(Prerequisite: Group Voice I or Director’s consent) Continue developing your particular vocal skills with more challenging material while progressing toward individualized study.

(Prerequisite: Group Voice II or Director’s consent) Your vocal skills expand as you learn more complex musical pieces featuring intricate harmonies. This class will work on solos, as well as continue work on ensemble singing.

Let your child explore the world of the performing arts with this fun and highly interactive musical theatre class.
