The STAGES St. Louis Spotlight on Careers Internship Program is designed to train the next generation of theatre professionals in the skills necessary to become successful and integral parts of the theatre community. We combine practical hands-on experience with the opportunity to work with and learn from the seasoned theatre professionals. While immersed in the professional world, our interns gain in-depth knowledge and experience in their chosen areas to become well-rounded theatre practitioners.
STAGES offers internships in a variety of areas including all production aspects, company management, marketing, development, Theatre for Young Audiences, and education programming. Internships are only available during the season from June - October. Interns are provided with a weekly stipend. STAGES does not provide housing for interns.
Company Management Internship
The company management intern works directly with the Artistic Coordinator to provide the highest level of hospitality to STAGES' artists. The company management internship provides the opportunity to be involved in the day-to-day details of the Acting and Production Company's professional lives. This includes activities relating to travel, housing, special needs, health and well-being, hospitality, and working to integrate artists into STAGES and the surrounding community. The successful applicant is ambitious, self-motivated, works well in a fast-paced environment and responds with flexibility to the needs of various collaborators and to rapidly changing circumstances and personalities. Applicants should demonstrate strong organizational skills, proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, and a strong sense of humor and maturity. This intern must have a valid driver's license, a reliable personal vehicle, and a flexibie schedule.
Education Internship
Education Interns assist the artistic and education staff with planning and running STAGES St. Louis Performing Arts Academy programs. Responsibilities include research, organizing material, leading warm-ups, and assisting in developing and teaching theatre camps with professional artists. Interns will also take part in the ongoing administration of education and outreach programs. This internship is very rigorous and applicants should be prepared to think quickly, be proactive, and respond with flexibility to rapidly changing circumstances and personalities. Applicants should have experience working with children and an interest in arts education. This intern must have a valid driver's license, a reliable personal vehicle, and a flexible schedule.
Production Internship
STAGES offers production internships for the following departments:
- Carpentry/Run Crew
- Costume Shop Management
- Properties
- Audio
- Electrics
- Production Management
- Stage Management
These interns will work closely in each respective department. Our interns work alongside full-time and seasonal staff in all aspects of production. Our season runs from early April until mid-October. Within those dates, we are able to create internships for shorter lengths of time.

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled as a college student or recent college graduate
- Be a resident of the St. Louis, MO area or able to relocate to St. Louis and provide local housing for the duration of your internship
- Be able to provide own local transportation
- Able to work 30-40 hours per week of internship
